Ribeira in Porto
One of Porto’s most beautiful riverside areas, with colorful facades, rabelo boats, terraces and lovely views towards Vila Nova de Gaia.
✨ What is Ribeira?
Ribeira is Porto’s historic riverside district, located in the lower part of the city next to the Douro River. It is part of the historic center and one of the most visited areas in Porto.
For me, it is one of the most photogenic parts of the city: colorful facades, balconies, restaurants, terraces, boats on the river and beautiful views towards Vila Nova de Gaia and the Dom Luis I Bridge.
It is perfect for walking slowly, taking photos, having a drink by the river and enjoying Porto’s classic atmosphere.

📍 Practical information for visiting Ribeira
Ribeira is in the lower part of Porto, by the Douro River and opposite Vila Nova de Gaia. From here you can easily cross the lower level of Dom Luis I Bridge.

🚶 Things to do in Ribeira
🍽️ Where to eat and when to go
Ribeira has plenty of restaurants and terraces by the river. It is a beautiful area for a drink or meal with views, although it can be more touristy and sometimes more expensive.
My advice is to check the menu before sitting down and not choose only because of the location. Sometimes it is worth having a drink with a view and eating your main meal somewhere less touristy.

From the area around Porto Cathedral, you can walk down to Ribeira, although there is a considerable change in elevation and the streets are cobbled.
