What to pack: travel essentials so you do not forget anything
A practical packing list by type of trip: beach, road trip, flight or city break.
🧳 Essentials for any trip
Packing can seem easy, but there are always small details that can slip your mind and that you later miss during the trip. That is why I have prepared this list with my essentials for travelling more comfortably, staying organised and avoiding last-minute surprises.
First and most important: identification and travel documents. Do not forget your ID card, passport, boarding passes, accommodation bookings, travel insurance or any document required for your destination.
There are also basics I always recommend taking: phone charger, power bank, charger for the power bank, camera, camera charger and an extra SD card. If you like taking photos and videos during your trips, this is essential.
Your suitcase should also include pyjamas, enough underwear and outfits, a toiletry bag, toothbrush, personal hygiene products, basic medication, comfortable slippers for the hotel and, if you wear contact lenses, your lens case and contact lens solution. Another basic I often pack is an electric mosquito repellent, especially for destinations where there may be mosquitoes.
🏖️ If you are going to relax at the beach, do not forget:
Bikini or swimsuit, beach clothes, light clothing, flip-flops, sunglasses, hat or cap, beach towel, beach bag, sunscreen, after sun, a sarong or comfortable dress for going down to the beach and a reusable bottle to stay hydrated.
🚗 If you are travelling by road, do not forget:
Driving licence, car documents, phone charger for the car, phone holder, sunglasses, water, snacks, tissues, small bags for rubbish, a light jacket or blanket and music or podcasts downloaded for the journey.
I also recommend carrying a small bag with the most important things close at hand, so you do not have to open your whole suitcase during the journey.
✈️ If you are flying, do not forget:
ID card or passport, boarding pass, liquids in the allowed format, a transparent bag for airport security, power bank, headphones, a jacket or scarf because planes are often cold, something for entertainment during the flight and any important medication.
If you check in a suitcase, it is also a good idea to pack one spare outfit in your hand luggage, just in case your suitcase is delayed or something unexpected happens.
🏙️ If you are visiting a city, do not forget:
Comfortable trainers, a practical bag or backpack, sunglasses, power bank, camera, chargers, reusable bottle, comfortable clothes for walking, a light jacket and one slightly dressier outfit in case you go out for dinner or want to take nice photos.
✨ My final tip
Every trip is different, but having a list of basics helps a lot when packing without stress. The important thing is to think about the destination, the weather, the type of trip and your own essentials. That way you can travel with peace of mind and everything ready to enjoy from the very first moment.
