Binibeca Vell
Whitewashed houses, narrow lanes and Mediterranean calm by the sea in south-eastern Menorca.
Binibeca Vell —officially Binibèquer Vell— is Sant Lluís’ well-known “Fishermen’s Village”: a privately owned residential development with distinctive architecture, created from 1964 onwards.
What is Binibeca Vell?
The complex was conceived by Menorcan surveyor Antonio Sintes Mercadal with technical support from architect Francisco Juan Barba Corsini. Its 165 white houses overlooking the sea were inspired by the buildings and narrow lanes of the Greek islands.
Despite its “Fishermen’s Village” name, it was never a traditional fishing settlement. The name recalls an old fishermen’s shelter that once stood by the sea.
What to see
- The white lanes and irregular passageways.
- The small open chapel and bell tower.
- Viewpoints overlooking the Mediterranean.
- The shopping area with local stores and restaurants.
It is a short visit that combines well with Binibeca beach or other coves on the south-east coast.
Getting there by public transport
From Maó: the seasonal L93 Maó–Sant Lluís–Binibèquer bus leaves from Maó bus station and stops at Poblat Pescadors.
The currently published service runs from 1 May to 31 October 2026. A direct connection may not operate outside this period.
Travel tips
From elsewhere in Menorca, the simplest option is usually to travel to Maó bus station first and change to the L93. Always check on the day, as frequencies vary by season.
Outside the L93 operating dates, you will need a taxi or private vehicle for the final stretch.
